Peek vs TextSniper
TextSniper copies the text from anything on screen. Peek copies the text too, then adds the image, masks secrets and writes a description for an AI.
Pick TextSniper if you
- only need the text from a PDF, video or image
- read QR codes and barcodes
- want text read aloud
Pick Peek if you
- want the AI to see the layout, not only the words
- want secrets masked before the text leaves your Mac

What TextSniper does well
It does one job. Its page lists text capture from images, PDFs, videos and webpages, QR code and barcode reading, and text to speech, with more recognition languages on newer macOS versions.[9]
What Peek adds when the screenshot is for an AI
Secrets go first
Peek finds keys, tokens, passwords, card numbers and emails on its own, before any AI sees the capture. On every plan.
Written for where you paste
Prose for chat apps, Markdown for AI editors, compact text with the git branch for terminal agents.
Agents fetch it themselves
Claude Code, Codex and Cursor read captures through MCP or
peek last. No saving and attaching.
Price
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Peek Free | $0 | Every capture mode, all secret removal, every format |
| Peek Pro | $39 once, launch price ($49 regular) | A year of updates, 3 Macs, 14-day free trial |
| TextSniper | One-time purchase[9] | Licences for 1, 3 or unlimited Macs; 7-day money-back guarantee[9] |
TextSniper's page shows different figures for the same licence, so this page doesn't quote one. Check textsniper.app before you buy.
Using both
Use TextSniper when you only want words. Press ⌃⌘P when an AI should see what's on screen, and Peek sends the text, the image and a description together.
Questions
Isn't copied text enough for an AI?
Often it is. When layout matters, such as which field shows the error or what a button looks like, Peek sends the image and a description with the text.
Does Peek read text on my Mac?
Yes. Peek reads text with Apple's Vision framework on your Mac before anything is sent.
