Peek vs Claude's quick entry
Claude Desktop's quick entry lets you drag over the screen and attach a screenshot to a message. Peek works in front of any AI and masks secrets first.
Use quick entry if you
- only paste screens into Claude
- want a screenshot in a message with one shortcut
- use an older Mac, as far back as macOS 12
Pick Peek if you
- move between Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and terminal agents
- want secrets masked before the capture leaves your Mac
- want the exact text and a description, not only an image

What quick entry does well
It's one gesture from anywhere. Double tap Option, and a prompt to drag a screenshot appears by your cursor; the screenshot attaches to your message. It's on every Claude plan, free included, and works from macOS 12.[8]
What Peek adds when the screenshot is for an AI
Secrets go first
Peek finds keys, tokens, passwords, card numbers and emails on its own, before any AI sees the capture. On every plan.
Written for where you paste
Prose for chat apps, Markdown for AI editors, compact text with the git branch for terminal agents.
Agents fetch it themselves
Claude Code, Codex and Cursor read captures through MCP or
peek last. No saving and attaching.
Using both
Peek's AI chat format is written for pasting into Claude. Press ⌃⌘P, drag, and paste: Claude gets masked text, a description and the blurred image. Peek can use the same Claude Code login you already have.

Its help article doesn't mention hiding anything. Peek masks API keys, tokens, passwords, card numbers and emails on every plan.
Can Peek use my Claude login?
Yes. Peek's descriptions can run on your Claude Code login, or your own Claude or Gemini key.
